Lunenburg contains about 10000 year round residents.
The town is surrounded by three bodies of water all of which have their own roll in the community. Hickory Hills Lake is made up of mainly vacation cottages. Shirley Reservoir is used as a public body of water. Lastly, Lake Whalom and the Whalom Amusement Park describe the distinct difference from the Whalom District to the rest of Lunenburg.
